Who is Penelope & Simon?

Jay and Jennifer, creators of Scrap! by Penelope & Simon, web developers and graphic designers.

How are your kits, cards and invitations created?

Currently we are using Adobe Photoshop 7 and everything is created at 300 ppi.

Do you offer your products on CD?

Of course. Please email us a list of the kits you'd like to purchase including your mailing address and we'll send you an invoice through PayPal. Or you can press the 'Buy Now' button, pay for each item individually and put a note on each invoice requesting your purchase on CD.

Do you charge for CD's?

Our shipping charge is $3.00 (USD). We do not make money on these charges. The fee includes CD, packaging and shipping fees. However, we do offer free shipping on orders over $20.00 (USD).

What is RSS?

RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". Simply put, this is a program that organizes new or changed content to be viewed in an easy format without having to search each of your favorite sites for updated information. When you are on a site that offers an RSS feed the RSS button, found at the top left on your Internet Explorer tool bar, should turn orange. If it turns orange then you can click on the arrow next to it and subscribe to the feed and get more information regarding feeds. If it does not turn orange, then you need to click on the RSS feed button provided on the site.

How to download a kit freebie

Using Windows XP

1. Find a Kit you would like to download.

2. Click on the Download, located below the image of your freebie.

3. Click "Save". (Save it where you'll remember where to find it.) You'll need to wait a minute or two, depending on the file size.

4. Open your documents folder and find the file you just saved. Hover over it, highlighting it, right click and select "Extract All", "Next", "Next", then "Finish". The file will open in another window.

5. Open your photo editing software, like Adobe PSE or Photoshop. Open the layout you would like to use or a new layout. Using either of these softwares go to File then Open. Find the kit you just downloaded and open one of the files. Press Ctrl+A (to select all), then Ctrl+C (to copy all that you just selected), then Ctrl+Tab (to toggle back to your layout), then Ctrl+V to paste it on your layout.

How to navigate our site

Under each tab, or category, you can choose to sort the kits by type (kits, papers, embellishments, etc.) or themes (christmas, sports, vacation, etc.)

If you're looking for something particular, you can use the search box, which searches all of our categories.

Glossary

Alpha
A set of letters used to embellish your layout.

Bevel
Highlights and shadows creating a 3-dimensional effect.

.BMP (Bitmap)
Image file format commonly used for storing digital images.

Brush
A digital tool, found in the tools palette, that allows you to create many effects depending on the presets.

.CPT
Image file format for Corel® Photo-Paint®.

Crop, Virtual Crop or Digital Crop
A chat room created for digital scrapbookers to create pages together.

Crop, to crop an image
To remove unwanted parts of an image.

Digi
Short for Digital.

Digital Scrapbooking
Digitally creating a page to display your pictures creatively while preserving your memories.

Dingbat, Dings or Wing Dings
A font created out of shape silhouettes or pictures rather than letters.

DPI (Dots Per Inch)
DPI is the number of individual dots a printer places per linear square inch.

Element or Embellishment
Digitally enhanced object to be used in a layout.

Emboss
Highlights and shadows creating a raised texture effect.

Feather
Effect used to soften the edges of your image.

Filter
A function tool designed to create a special effect.

.JPEG/JPG (Joint Photographic Expert Group)
JPG is a compressed image file format commonly used for displaying photographic images on the web. When transferring your pictures from your camera to your computer they may be saved as JPG's.

Kit
A collection of coordinating papers and embellishments ready to purchase from a designer.

Layers
Layers are used in image-editing software to seperate images allowing you to control each one individually.

LO or L/O
Layout, for short.

Mask
An image editing software function that allows you to place effects on your image without altering them directly.

Opacity
Degree of transparency.

Overlay or Transparency
Mostly transparent layer of artwork that is placed ontop of your photo or layout.

Photoshop® (PS)
Image editing software published by Adobe®.

Pixel, Picture element or Pix
Visually represents a dot or square in a graphic image relating to digital or print environments.

Template
Embellished pages created by designers for consumers to complete with photo's and/or journaling.

.PDF (Portable Document Format)
File format created by Adobe® for 2-dimensional documents.

Plug-in
A computer program that interacts with a host program to perform a specific function.

.PNG (Portable Network Graphics)
High quality file format using lossless compression format to retain transparency.

PPI (Pixels per inch)
Measures the resolution of a computer displayed image. Used in photo editing software.

.PSD (Adobe® PhotoShop® Document)
File format for some Adobe® imaging software, for example, Photoshop®, PhotoShop® Elements, PhotoShop® Elements CS3, etc.

.PSP (Corel ®Paint Shop Pro®)
Image file format for Corel®Paint Shop Pro® (formly known as Jasc® Paint shop Pro®).

Raster Graphic
An image is represented by using a collection of pixels in computer graphics.

Scrapbooking
Physically creating a page with paper and embellishments to display your pictures creatively while preserving your memories.

Scraplift
To use another persons work without their permission or giving credit to them.

.TIFF/TIF (Tagged Image File Format)
High quality file format using lossless compression.

Vector Graphic
In computer graphics an image is created using geometrical shapes, which are based upon mathematical equations. A vector graphic can be manipulated, without losing quality.

Word Art
Word or phrase that has been created to embellish you layout.

.ZIP
File format used to compress file into a single folder for archiving or distribution. Most commonly used by WinZip® and Microsoft® Windows XP+.

Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon Personal Use License Agreement

You MUST agree to this license to use any Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon product!

The following is a legal agreement between the customer ("You") and the owners of Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon ("Digital Age Scrapbooking eBay Store or Scrap! by Penelope & Simon", "Store"), Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon ("Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon", "We or Our") which governs the use of any digital image ("Images") purchase at our Store. By purchasing Images You agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement automatically, without any other conditions or declarations. If You do not agree with these terms, You are not allowed to use any Images.

LICENSE All Images are copyrighted and are Our property. Your rights to use the images are subject to this agreement and the restrictions specified. We hereby grant to You a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the image on the terms and conditions explained in this Agreement.

PERMITTED USAGE For personal use in the intended scope, to decorate or create scrapbooks, for family or as gifts.

UNAUTHORIZED USAGE For pornographic, unlawful or other immoral purposes, for spreading hate or discrimination, or to defame or victimise other people, sociteties, cultures. To endorse products and services. In a way that can give Us a bad name. As part of a trademark, indentity, service mark or logo. In website or digital templates that You intend to sell or distribute. For creating printed reproductions that You intend to sell. On "print on demand" items such as t-shirts, postcards, mouse pads, mugs (e.g. on sites like Cafepress), or on any similar mass produced item that would contain the Image in a dominant way. SELLING AND REDISTRIBUTION OF THE IMAGE (INDIVIDUALLY OR ALONG WITH OTHER IMAGES) IS STRICTLY FORBIDDEN! DO NOT SHARE THE IMAGE WITH OTHERS!

UNAUTHORIZED DISTRIBUTION You may not place any of our Images, modified or unmodified, on a diskette, CD, website or any other medium and offer them for redistribution or resale in a fashion that would violate this license.

MODIFICATIONS You are permitted to make whatever modifications necessary to our Images to make them fit your requirements. However, they will still be subject to this license regardless of the extent of the modification.

NONTRANSFERABLE LICENSE You may not sub-license, assign, or transfer this license to anyone else.

IMAGE OWNERSHIP You may not claim intellectual or exclusive ownership of any of Our Images, modified or unmodified. All Images remain as Our property. None of the Images or a derivative of the Images may be copyrighted.

DISCLAIMER We not liable in any way for damages or litigation that may arise when using or downloading Images provided by Us. You acknowledge and assume all risk and/or responsibility when using Images. Please use Your own legal discretion and resources concerning any liability issues.

COPYRIGHT You acknowledge that, by Your purchase, the ownership of Images does not transfer to You and You must not claim it as Yours. Your license is non-transferable, which means that You are not allowed to sell, rent, give, sublicense, or otherwise transfer the Images or the right to use the Images to anyone else. The work You create with the Images must be used either by Yourself or used by Yourself to create a gift for another person. You warrant that You will do Your best to prevent third parties from duplicating the Images.

INDEMNIFICATION We cannot be held responsible for any copyright violations, and cannot guarantee the legality of the Images stored in its system. We will not be held liable for any damage to any personal computer that You transfer the Images to or from. You use the Images at your own risk!

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon and its officers, employees, shareholders, directors and suppliers against all claims, liability, damages, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees and expenses, arising out of or related to a breach of this Agreement, the use or the inability of use of any Images. Your failure to abide by any restriction regarding the use of the Images, or any claim by a third party related to the use of the Images.

WARRANTY AND LIABILITY THE IMAGES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS". WE OFFER NO WARRANTY, EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED, REGARDING ANY IMAGES, THE ACCURACY OF ANY INFORMATION, OR ANY RIGHTS OR LICENSES UNDER THIS AGREEMENT INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Digital Age Scrapbooking DOES NOT REPRESENT OR WARRANT THAT THE IMAGES WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT THEIR USE WILL BE ERROR FREE.

Digital Age Scrapbooking and/or Penelope & Simon SHALL NOT BE LIABLE TO YOU OR TO ANY OTHER PERSON OR ENTITY FOR ANY GENERAL, PUNITIVE, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES, COSTS OR LOSSES ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THE IMAGES.
